SWAT: A high-level review meeting was held regarding the Child Protection Committee under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Swat Shahzad Mehboob in Swat district here on Thursday.
The meeting was attended by District Child Protection Officer Swat Ehsanullah, District Education Officer (Women) Swat, Prosecution, Swat Jail, Police, University of Swat, Assistant Director Zamung Kor Institute Swat, Social Welfare Swat and other relevant department heads.
In the meeting, Child Protection Officer Swat gave a detailed briefing to the participants regarding child protection. He informed the forum about all the details regarding the cases registered in the Child Protection Unit, Swat District, regarding sexual exploitation of children, child labor, children victims of violence, children involved in child begging and cases registered in the Child Protection Court.
He said that in the last 4 months, the Child Protection Unit has taken several actions in which a total of 95 children have been saved from the heinous profession of begging.
After the counseling/advice classes for the children, after taking an affidavit on stamp paper from the parents of the minor children involved in begging, the children have been handed over to their parents.
The Child Protection Officer Swat also presented the problems faced by them to the Deputy Commissioner Swat, on which the Deputy Commissioner Swat said that all the problems faced by the Child Protection Unit will be resolved on priority basis and along with this, the concerned Assistant Commissioners will fully cooperate with them in the actions against the minor children involved in begging so that permanent eradication of begging from Swat district is possible. He said that after taking an affidavit from the parents of the children involved in begging, if the children are still found involved in begging, strictest legal action will be taken against them and beggars belonging to other districts will be expelled from the district along with their parents.
Deputy Commissioner Swat Shahzad Mehboob, while issuing instructions, said that more operations will be carried out to rescue minor children involved in begging and the practice of begging will be completely eradicated from Swat district.
