NEW YORK: Federal Minister for Defense Khawaja Asif has said sustainable development will remain out of reach as long as tragedies like Gaza continue, accusing developed countries of perpetuating such crises. Speaking at the upcoming UN summit in New York, Khawaja called on the international community to address global economic disparities and ensure equitable growth for developing countries. In his speech, Khawaja called for better representation of developing countries in international financial institutions and pushed for a review of the sovereign debt framework to ensure fairness. He also sought to create a fair international tax system. Khawaja stressed the need for reforms in the World Trade Organization (WTO), saying such changes would help developing countries expand exports and promote development. He warned against the introduction of new forms of environmental protectionism that could hinder progress. The Minister of Defense also expressed his support for the adoption of the UN Pact for the Future, calling it a vital document reflecting the determination of the global community to address pressing challenges. He emphasized the importance of keeping the commitments made in the pact.
