ISLAMABAD: Lawmakers who were earlier sworn in at reserved seats have decided to move the court in personal capacity.
The membership of these MPs was later suspended following the Supreme Court’s verdict on reserved seats.
The Supreme Court last week overturned the verdict of the Peshawar High Court, which deprived the PTI of reserved seats for non-Muslim candidates in assemblies.
In its 8-5 majority decision, the Supreme Court declared that the Election Commission’s action on reserved seats was “unconstitutional”, adding that the PTI would remain intact as a political party even without the allocation of an election symbol.
According to sources, the suspended MPs will file an appeal against the Supreme Court’s verdict. The former MPs said they were not heard by the Supreme Court on the matter.
Sources said the suspended members have completed the consultation process and will move the court separately in their personal capacities.
Political parties advised the suspended MPs to move the court, sources said.
