KURRAM: At least one soldier was martyred and four others sustained injuries after unidentified gunmen ambushed a convoy of 35 vehicles carrying relief goods for Kurram on Thursday. The convoy was on its way to Parachinar in Lower Kurram when militants opened fire on both sides of the road near Bagan. In retaliation, security forces neutralized six terrorists. Hang Deputy Commissioner Saeed Mannan confirmed that the convoy from Tal was on its way to Parachinar when it came under fire. The attackers fired a rocket at the convoy, which hit the vehicle. After stopping the convoy, they opened fire as three vehicles were damaged. Later the convoy returned to Tal. Former federal minister from Kurram Sajid Turi said small and large weapons were used in the attack. Recall that on January 8, a convoy of 40 vehicles with humanitarian supplies arrived in Kurram district. The area was cut off from the rest of the country due to a 94-day road closure due to violent tribal clashes. The convoy was sent by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government and was carrying food, medicine and other necessities. Later, 10 trucks were sent to Bagan while 30 arrived in Parachinar. At least 130 people have been killed in clashes since November. A peace agreement was signed between the warring tribes on January 1, but the road remained blocked. On 4 January, a KP government convoy was attacked near Bagan, injuring Kurram’s deputy commissioner and leaving the convoy stranded.
