LAHORE: Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari has said that digital terrorism on social media is a threat to the state.
Speaking to the media outside the Lahore High Court (LHC), she advocated regulation as social media operates globally according to rules.
She raised a question on the functioning of social media without any rules and regulations as anyone could post anything without any accountability.
The minister claimed that social media is being misused under the pretext of freedom of speech.
But now the social media accounts will be operated as per regulations, she added, adding that the government is not against social media.
Highlighting the unregulated misuse of social media, Bokhari said that social media was being used for digital terrorism and the state was not safe from it.
Referring to the attack on Capitol Hill, she said the accused had been sentenced to seven years in prison for their involvement, but no one had been held accountable in Pakistan.
She said the government is planning to provide relief in electricity bills. She said Awais Leghari confirmed that the Prime Minister had taken the matter into his own hands to resolve it.
Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz provided free solar panels to consumers using up to 100 to 200 units of electricity.
The government would pay 90% of the cost of solar panels for protected consumers using 200 to 500 units.
