Islamabad: SLB (NYSE: SLB) has partnered with Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL), the largest oil and gas exploration and production company in Pakistan, to develop a strategy to exploit geothermal resources in hydrocarbon fields in Pakistan.
As part of the partnership, SLB will assist OGDCL in preparing a plan to assess the geothermal potential of 25 fields in the northern, southern and central basins selected by OGDCL. SLB experts, along with the OGDCL team, will evaluate surface, subsurface and well data for the field to identify focus areas and assess their geothermal potential using regional models and well performance calculations.
As part of the initial OGDCL pilot project, nine areas were investigated, evaluated and selected for detailed analysis, geothermal potential assessment, well modeling and determination of next steps.
By leveraging SLB’s expertise and technology, we aim to not only assess the potential of geothermal resources but also contribute to the solution sustainable energy for the country,” he said.
“Governments in the region see the potential of geothermal energy as an alternative clean energy source that can support net-zero initiatives,” said Karim Badawi, SLB’s new energy development director for MENA. This geothermal pilot project, which covers fields in three basins of the country, is an important step in the development of Pakistan’s geothermal resources and we are pleased to work with OGDCL in exploring renewable, low-carbon energy sources. “
