The Sindh government has announced an ambitious plan to provide electric vehicles (EVs) to unemployed youth in easy installments to offer them a sustainable livelihood while promoting environmental sustainability. The initiative, which aims to address the rising unemployment rate among young people, will provide them with eco-friendly EV taxis that will allow them to earn by driving, Express News reported. Senior provincial minister Sharjeel Inam Memon directed the transport minister to work with banks and financial institutions to explore various financing models for the project. The aim is to develop simple repayment schemes to allow unemployed individuals to gradually own a taxi. During a recent meeting with officials of a Karachi-based company that assembles EV taxis, Minister Memon was briefed in detail about the environmental benefits of these vehicles. He said that providing EV taxis on easy installments would not only help create jobs but would also be in line with the provincial government’s vision of a greener Sindh. Memon emphasized that the initiative will provide long-term employment to the youth and enable them to earn a living through a sustainable source of income. He further noted that the program will contribute to the province’s commitment to environmental protection by introducing greener transportation options. The project is expected to be launched soon, with the first batch of EV taxis aimed at providing a reliable and affordable option for unemployed youth in Sindh.
