LAHORE: Pakistan pacer Shaheen Afridi has released a cryptic message after hitting the news for his heated arguments with batting coach Mohammad Yousuf during Pakistan’s tour of England just before the FIFA World Cup.
In a video Shaheen posted on his X (formerly Twitter) account, the 24-year-old captioned “Rise above” with an eagle emoji in his captain’s cap.
Shaheen could be seen bowling to Misbah-ul-Haq at the net session in England as the latter represents the Pakistan champions at the 2024 World Championship of Legends.
Remember, a day after reports from Lahore suggested that the coaches and management had complained to the PCB chairman about Shaheen’s attitude during the recent tour, it emerged that Afridi had actually exchanged heated words with Yousuf but later apologized to him. .
Several sources within the Pakistan cricket team management confirmed that the issue was “current” and was resolved immediately and there was nothing to report.
Recalling the incident, one source said that while Afridi was bowling in the nets at Headingly, Mohammad Yousuf – who was the batting coach with the team on the tour of Ireland and England – pointed to his off-ball.
After Shaheen was repeatedly called upon to bowl no balls, he became enraged – and that’s where it started.
The source added that the argument escalated.
Later, chief manager Wahab Riaz reprimanded Shaheen Afridi for his attitude, Shaheen accepted his mistake and apologized to the former batting legend.
“It was nothing but a routine case of congestion, so the chapter was closed then and there,” said the source when asked why it was not communicated to the PCB.
Reports on Wednesday stated that Shaheen’s behavior towards the coaches and management was not good in the recent tours.
