DUBAI: Players from the West Indies, Pakistan and Ireland are competing for the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for May 2024.
Pakistan fast bowlers Shaheen Shah Afridi, Gudakesh Motie, Gudakesh Motie and Ireland’s Lorcan Tucker have been nominated for the title.
Pakistan’s premier left-arm pacer took 10 wickets at an average of 14.5 in May. Shaheen Afridi was lethal with the new ball when he picked up three consecutive three-wicket hauls, three against Ireland and one against England, during the tour of Ireland and England.
The second was the deciding T20I in the three-match T20I series against Ireland. Shaheen registered a break in three innings and was awarded Player of the match for 3/14.
He also dismissed the likes of Jonny Bairstow and Moeen Ali for 3/36 against England in the second T20I in Birmingham.
Gudakesh Motie, one of a trio of spinners in the West Indies squad for the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, led South Africa to a 3-0 victory last month.
He got off to a good start in his first T20I, taking three crucial wickets in the middle overs to beat South Africa chasing 176. Motie played a similar role in the second T20I, returning impressive figures of 3/22 as South Africa went on to win. 16 runs.
In the second T20I in Dublin, Irish paceman-batsman Lorcan Tucker hit the ground running with 51 against Pakistan and scored four 40+ scores in four innings.
His best was 73 with 13 wickets and 41 sixes in the deciding T20I against Pakistan. Captaining Ireland for the first time, he set an example with his fiery batting and helped put up a strong total in the first innings.
In total, he scored 227 runs in six innings at an average of 37.83.
