Singer and actress Selena Gomez has revealed she is unable to carry her own children due to health issues, while also opening up about coming to terms with the reality, saying it was something she had to “grieve”. She announced the news in a heartfelt and candid interview with Vanity Fair. “I never said this, but unfortunately I can’t carry my own children,” Gomez said. “I have a lot of health problems that would endanger my life and the baby. That was something I had to mourn for a while.” Gomez, who has been open about her battle with lupus, an incurable autoimmune disease, underwent a kidney transplant in 2017 as a result of the condition. Additionally, she has spoken publicly about living with bipolar disorder, for which the medication she takes could make a safe pregnancy even more difficult. Despite this, Gomez has expressed her desire to become a mother and is exploring the options of surrogacy or adoption. “It’s not necessarily how I imagined it. I thought it would happen like everyone else. I’m much better off,” she said. Gomez added that she is grateful for the alternative paths available to those looking to start families, and remains optimistic about her future path to motherhood. “I’m excited about how the road is going to look, but it’s going to look a little different. At the end of the day, I don’t care. will be mine It will be my child,” she said. Gomez is currently in a relationship with record producer Benny Blanco, although she hasn’t talked about any immediate plans to start a family.
