Munich: John McGinn has gone viral in Germany for his attempt at a Bavarian folk dance and the Scotland midfielder will be hoping to spoil the hosts’ party in the Euro 2024 opener on Friday.
The 29-year-old’s larger-than-life personality is matched by his importance on the pitch as one of the driving forces behind Steve Clarke’s men’s international recognition.
This is Scotland’s second major tournament since 1998, and McGinn is also crucial to reaching Euro 2020.
However, after bowing out on home soil three years ago, Scotland are determined to do more than just their current numbers.
After hosts Germany, clashes with Switzerland and Hungary will give Clarke an easier path to four points to reach the knockout stages of a major tournament for the first time.
But the 150,000 tourists heading to Munich for Scotland’s dream opening game reminded the three-time European champions on their own home turf.
McGinn is likely to be heavily involved if Scotland get a high result at the Allianz Arena.
All 18 of Clarke’s international goals have come since the start of 2019, making him the club’s top scorer.
