SWAT: At least 15 women were killed in Swat district in the last four months of this year (2024).
According to women’s rights groups, 8 people, including 6 women, were killed in honor killings, while Swat police confirmed that 6 people, including 5 women, were killed in the name of honor.
Swat District Police Officer Dr Zahidullah Khan told this reporter. 5 murders were reported to the Swat police between January and April this year. Five women and one man were killed for honor.
“All 17 accused involved in this incident have been arrested and formal proceedings have been opened against them.”
DPO Swat said that in cases of honor killings, Section 302 and Section 311 were also mentioned and in many cases, the police themselves registered the case and added it to meet the demands of justice.
In this regard, Irfan Babak, head of the non-governmental organization “Awakening”, which works for women’s rights, said that according to statistics obtained from January to April 15, a total of 15 women were killed in the Swat district. 6 women and 2 men were killed for honor, one woman committed suicide due to a family dispute.
“8 women killed in another dispute”.
He said honor killing women were killed by their husbands by their brothers, parents or other close relatives, but unfortunately, no one was punished due to reconciliation in honor killings.
“This is why incidents of honor killings and domestic violence are increasing instead of decreasing.”
