CHITRAL: Construction work on the Chitral-Booni Shandor road has been going on for the past 4 years under the supervision of the National Highway Authority (NHA). The construction work on this road worth billions of rupees has suffered unnecessary delay on the one hand and it is also of poor quality on the other hand. This is why most of his protective walls automatically fall before completion. Members of CDM (Chitral Development Moment), a volunteer organization raising voice and advocating for the construction and repair of roads in Chitral, inspected the road. Experts revealed that the contract to build this road was awarded to Umar John & Company but they divided the work among small scale (PT) contractors. They said that the retaining, retaining walls on the side of the road towards the Chitral river were built on a sandy base without any foundation, as well as in their construction, much less cement seems to have been used and only rubbish and small pieces of stones were put inside. protective wall and plastered it with cement from the outside. The cement work was not cured in time, water was not showered on it, due to which even these cements deteriorate, decompose and these retaining walls fall without flooding or avalanche.
Apart from the CDM members, passers-by also used their hands to break the cement walls and termed it as very shoddy and shoddy work.
They said that usually when a common person does construction work in a house, they first dig three to four feet of foundation for the wall and put cement in the stones to build the wall. But in this unique retaining wall, small stones and rubbish have been inserted into the retaining walls without any cement inside and the wall has been plastered on the outside, giving the impression that cement has been used throughout the wall, but the wall is without cement inside. In addition to the fact that the contractor also cured poorly and water was not applied, making the cement unusable without water in July and August, this is why these walls are falling on their own. Where the walls have fallen, there is no flood, avalanche, or any large rock falling on them, but because of the lack of cement and no foundation, the wall has slid down and collapsed.
Syed Burhan Shah Advocate and other members of CDM requested the Chief Justice of Pakistan, Prime Minister of Pakistan, Federal Minister and Secretary for Communications and Chairman NHA to conduct a judicial inquiry into this faulty work and correct it as it should be built. as per applicable norms and specifications of NHA so that after the completion of this road when heavy trucks and passenger buses pass through this road, these retaining walls of poor quality will not bear their load and will not fall into the river. Because these retaining walls have been damaged in so many places where heavy debris has not fallen on them or floodwaters have flowed over them, they tend to automatically collapse due to non-existent foundation and shoddy workmanship.
