It is hard to believe that a hospital equipped with medical instruments and the presence of excellent doctors for free treatment of the public could be located in a small town in Pakistan. I am at a loss for words to praise the efforts of former Minister Ijaz Ali Khan for this initiative. These thoughts were expressed by senior anchorperson and former BBC London Bureau Chief, Reham Khan, during a crowded press conference after visiting the Darani Hospital in Haripur.
At this occasion, members of public, political, and social organizations from Haripur also attended. Reham Khan further said, “In today’s most challenging times, where the poor cannot even afford two meals a day, building such hospitals for the public and providing free treatment is not just difficult, but impossible. In these hospitals, treating a poor patient feels nothing less than a miracle.” She continued, “We must come together and continue our moral and social support to further develop this institution and pay tribute to Ijaz Ali Khan.”
On this occasion, host Ijaz Ali Khan expressed his gratitude to Reham Khan, the press, and other guests, saying, “My goal is to selflessly serve the people of Haripur. During my brief tenure as a minister, I gave the people of Haripur a university, where today nine thousand students are receiving higher education.” He further said, “I am a resident of Haripur, and I am well aware of the problems faced by the people here. After establishing an educational institution in Haripur, I realized that the people of Haripur lacked proper healthcare facilities. I made a promise to myself that I would provide the people of my area with excellent healthcare services, and, thank God, this hospital is now here.”
He added, “It was my dream to establish a good and standard medical college for the talented youth of Haripur, and I invested millions of rupees to bring this project to completion. However, due to the government’s lack of approval, the college has not yet been fully realized. But I have never given up, nor will I. Inshallah, I will achieve my goal and build a medical college for the youth of Haripur.”
At this occasion, former MPA Zargul Khan, former legal director of HESCO Amjad Zaman Khan, Liaqat Khan Shah, Mohammad Sajad Khan Baghda, members of the Haripur Press Club, former president of the All Trade Haripur Raja Hafeez Anwar, National Hockey Empire Dr. Aslam Chaudhary, former divisional general secretary of the Pakistan People’s Party, Aurangzeb Mughal, Sheikh Fayyaz Hussain, and others attended.
