LAHORE: While the nation is still reeling from the increased amount of taxes announced in the annual budget earlier this year, the Punjab Cabinet Standing Committee has approved the introduction of garbage tax.
The tax was approved at the meeting by the Standing Committee for Finance and Development.
Once approved by the provincial cabinet, the waste tax will be imposed on homes and businesses in rural and urban areas.
In rural areas, Rs 200 per 5 marla house, Rs 400 per 10 marla house per kanal, Rs 300 for small enterprises, village shops, Rs 700 for medium enterprises and Rs 1000 for large enterprises per month will be collected.
On the other hand, in the urban population, a monthly tax of Rs 300 will be collected for a 5 marla house, Rs 500 to 2,000 for a 10 marla to 1 kanal house and Rs 5,000 for a house larger than one kanal.
Similarly, urban small businesses will be charged Rs 500, medium businesses Rs 1,000 and large businesses Rs 3,000 per month.
It is to be noted that the garbage tax will come into effect across the province after approval by the Punjab Cabinet.
