The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) today decided to go on a symbolic hunger strike in front of the Parliament House and the Punjab Assembly.
PTI lawmakers will begin a hunger strike camp on Tuesday, led by Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Omar Ayub. PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar and other members will sit in the hunger strike camp.
The symbolic hunger strike will continue from 3 to 7 p.m.
On the other hand, the Sunni Ittehad Council also decided to set up a hunger strike camp in Punjab similar to the one planned by the PTI in the federal capital. The camp will be held from July 24 outside the Punjab Assembly from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
Leader of Opposition in Punjab Assembly Malik Ahmad Bachhar says the decision to go on hunger strike was taken at the behest of PTI founder Imran Khan, while parliamentary leader Mian Aslam Iqbal was also consulted.
The symbolic hunger strike is aimed at demanding the release of party founder Imran Khan and against the arrest of social media activists as well as rising inflation.
