Islamabad: Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has conducted an independent quality of service (QoS) survey in sixteen cities of Sindh, Punjab, Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to measure the performance of mobile operators (CMOs). .
The survey route includes main roads, service roads and several branches, covering 2,270 kilometers from CMO in 60 days. A mobile phone in auto-detection mode is used for voice calls, SMS and mobile broadband/data sessions. The study included 0.25 million mobile broadband tests, 45,000 phone and SMS tests and 0.13 million Okla speed tests using advanced QoS monitoring tools to ensure compliance with the NGMS license and the Mobile Network QoS Regulations 2021. .
CMOs ranked from No. 1 to No. 4 based on mobile network coverage and meeting key performance indicators (KPIs) in voice services. In the mobile broadband speed segment, ratings are determined by data download / upload speed, network latency and web page load times. Jaz, Ufone and Zong together rank No. 1 in the mobile network, with Zong leading in mobile broadband speed (Ookla). Jazz ranks #1 in mobile broadband speed (auto test) and voice service. These rankings are for specific research areas, not national.
The results show that CMO in particular meets upload/download speed standards, with improved network latency and web page load times compared to previous studies. However, some KPI sound below the authorized limit in some areas. Operators using advanced technologies such as LTE Carrier Aggregation and LTE over Voice have offered better service quality.
The PTA ordered the operator to take corrective measures to improve the quality of service. The survey results are available on the PTA website for customer information (https://pta.gov.pk/en/consumer-support/qos-survey/qos-survey). This monitoring exercise is a regular feature to evaluate QoS and aims to encourage better mobile services and promote healthy competition between operators.
