According to sources, the PTA has stated that unregistered VPNs are being blocked through a firewall, and this temporary blocking is being carried out to whitelist VPNs, as unregistered VPNs pose a security risk.
Sources indicate that unregistered and illegal VPNs can be used to access sensitive data and illegal content. The PTA started the registration of VPNs in 2010, and so far, approximately 20,500 VPNs have been registered.
It is reported that over 1,422 companies have registered VPNs with the PTA, which aims to accelerate the whitelisting process. Countries like China, Russia, Iran, Turkey, and others have already blocked unregistered VPNs, while the UAE, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia also restrict unregistered VPN usage.
Sources mention that some countries only allow VPNs for business purposes, and in Pakistan, there are no restrictions on VPNs used for business.
Users have been complaining for several hours about difficulties using free VPNs. When contacted regarding the VPN blockage, the PTA spokesperson did not provide any answers to questions about the issue.
