ISLAMABAD – Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar has said that the process of privatization of discotheques has been initiated after the amendment of the State Enterprises Act.
Addressing a press conference along with MQM leader Mustafa Kamal in Islamabad on Thursday, he pointed out that the inefficiency and corruption of Discos has been going on for decades.
The Information Minister said that the Prime Minister announced a subsidy of Rs 50 billion on electricity bills of consumers who use up to two hundred units. He said this decision was taken to ensure that electricity bills remain lower during the summer season. According to him, the prime minister also extended the deadline for electricity payments by 10 days.
He said the government has also taken steps to check over-billing and power theft.
Mustafa Kamal said that his party, which is responsible, never scored points. He said that during today’s meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the MQM was informed about the steps taken to solve the problems faced by the public due to electricity bills.
