ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday paid tributes to Lance Naik Mahfuz Shaheed (Nishan-i-Haider) on his 53rd martyrdom anniversary and recognized his courage and sacrifice for the protection of the country.
In their separate statements, the President and Prime Minister praised Lance Naik Mahfuz Shaheed’s exemplary gallantry in the 1971 war when he repulsed the enemy at the Wagah border.
They prayed to Allah Almighty for the elevation of Lance Naik Mahfuz Shaheed in Paradise.
“Lance Naik Mahfuz Shaheed fought the enemy bravely. The entire nation pays tribute to him for his exemplary bravery and patriotism. The people of Pakistan recognize the sacrifices of the martyrs, which they will never forget,” the President noted.
Prime Minister Shehbaz said that Lance Naik Mahfuz Shaheed defeated the enemy despite their overwhelming force.
“Lance Naik Mahfuz Shaheed has emerged as an indomitable symbol of duty and patriotism to protect the country from the evil intentions of enemies. His devotion to the motherland and the spirit of sacrificing his life in its defense is a role model for the new generation to follow,” he said.
The Prime Minister said that the entire nation was proud of the martyrs of the Pakistan Army and their families and would never forget the sacrifices made by the armed forces for the defense of the country.
