Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari has urged the need to improve trade and investment relations with the US, besides exploring opportunities for cooperation in various sectors. He said American businesses should be encouraged to invest in Pakistan’s stock exchange and also bring innovative business ideas to the country’s economy.
The President made these remarks while talking to the United States of America (US) Ambassador to Pakistan, Mr. Donald Blome, who invited him to Aiwan-e-Sadr.
During the meeting, the President said that Pakistan has a long and broad relationship with the US spanning over seven decades, which needs to be further strengthened.
The President stated that Pakistan’s top priority is to put its economy on the right track and overcome economic and security challenges. He emphasized that climate change is a global problem and Pakistan is among the countries most vulnerable to its adverse effects. He said Pakistan wants to improve its agricultural sector by adopting modern irrigation techniques to conserve water and reduce dependence on flood irrigation.
US Ambassador to Pakistan Mr. Donald Blome said that Pakistan and the US could strengthen bilateral cooperation in trade and investment, climate change, renewable energy, agriculture and security.
