Islamabad : The highest audit authorities of Pakistan and Azerbaijan should work more closely together to share best practices in auditing in order to improve financial accountability and transparency, according to President Dr. Arif Alvi. According to him, public sector accounting plays a crucial role in financial management in government agencies, promoting accountability and transparency in public spending.
The President shared these opinions with Mr. Vugar Gulmammadov, the visiting Chairman of the Republic of Azerbaijan’s Chamber of Accounts, who paid him a visit with his entourage. Attending the conference were representatives of the Auditor General of Pakistan (AGP), Mr. Muhammad Ajmal Gondal, and AGP staff.
The President was briefed by Mr. Vugar Gulmammadov, the Chairman of the Chamber of Accounts of Azerbaijan (CAA), regarding the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for peer reviews of public accounts that was signed by the Supreme Audit Institutions of Pakistan (AGP) and Azerbaijan (CAA). According to him, the MoU will contribute to strengthening the two nations’ cordial ties.
The President applauded AGP and CAA for signing the Memorandum of Understanding, stating that this will enhance bilateral collaboration in the area of public sector auditing. He went on to say that collaboration between AGP and CAA would be advantageous to both nations. He also valued AGP’s contribution to the peer assessments conducted by the Azerbaijani Supreme Audit Institution (SAI).
Speaking with the group, the President stated that Pakistan placed a high value on its people-to-people relationships, shared history, and shared religion with Azerbaijan. He said that in order to promote understanding and mutually beneficial development between the two sister nations, it was imperative to expand collaboration in the cultural and economic spheres and promote cultural exchanges. He described Pakistan and Azerbaijan’s collaboration as “pivotal for promoting peace, stability, and development in the region.”
Along with congratulating President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan on his reelection in the presidential election that took place on February 7, 2024, the President expressed the hope that his administration will further solidify ties between Pakistan and Azerbaijan.
