RAWALPINDI: Awaam Pakistan (APP) convener Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Sunday expressed his concern over the political landscape in the country and said that political stability cannot be achieved in a country where elections are rigged.
Speaking in Karachi, Mr Abbasi stressed the importance of upholding the constitution as the only viable way forward.
Addressing the rally, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi mocked political parties for preparing manifestos which are often ignored after elections. “Every party has the same manifesto, but there is no real implementation,” he noted, highlighting growing public disillusionment.
“Today, every Pakistani is worried. Everywhere you go, people are asking what is going to happen to the country and what is the solution to its problems.”
The former prime minister stressed that the primary role of governments is to serve the people by providing basic services such as electricity, water and healthcare. He pointed out that the key to solving the nation’s problems lies within the framework of the constitution.
“Countries that violate the constitution are not developing. We must work diligently to solve these problems,” he said.
Mr. Abbasi further lamented the widespread disregard for constitutional obligations, which he said was the root cause of the country’s stagnation. “The country cannot progress because everyone does not honor their oath. Nothing will improve without reforms and a return to the constitutional path,” he warned.
The APP chief also touched upon Pakistan’s economic problems, comparing the current economic situation with that of a decade ago. “The economy is in the same state as it was 10 years ago. Our leadership remains focused on its interests,” he said.
In a scathing criticism, he cited the absence of any government ministers during athlete Arshad Nadeem’s departure for an international event, highlighting the lack of official support for national heroes.
Mr. Abbasi reiterated that the solution to Pakistan’s problems lies in the constitution and that any attempt to deviate from it would only deepen the nation’s crises.
