Mirpur: Sardar Ahsan Ibrahim Khan, President of the Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Party and Member of the Legislative Assembly, has raised concerns over the political instability in Azad Kashmir. Speaking to the media at the Kashmir Press Club in Mirpur, he criticized the current governance system, stating that when 48 out of 53 assembly votes are against a prime minister who has no party of his own, the system inevitably collapses, leading to poor decision-making.
He warned that political parties following external influences instead of making independent decisions would face serious consequences. He questioned whether Azad Kashmir could take concrete steps for the Kashmir independence movement or improve essential sectors like education and healthcare under the current conditions.
Sardar Ahsan further stated that the system in Azad Kashmir is operating without accountability, which is unsustainable in the long run. He revealed that he refused a government position due to the flawed decision-making processes of political parties. He emphasized the need for people to hold such parties accountable through their votes.
During the media talk, he was accompanied by prominent lawyers and political figures, including former Secretary-General Syed Neshat Kazmi Advocate, Sardar Asim Advocate, Syed Jiyad Kazmi Advocate, Syed Raza Hussain Advocate, and Abid Parvez Bhatti Amanullah Khan. He also congratulated newly appointed office-bearers of the Kashmir Press Club, including President Syed Abid Hussain Shah, General Secretary Raj Sohrab Ahmad Khan, Vice President Rana Muhammad Shabbir, and other officials.
Reflecting on his political journey, he stated that both he and his late father, Sardar Khalid Ibrahim, had led significant movements without resorting to road blockades, opting instead for parliamentary solutions. He expressed dissatisfaction with several policies of the current Prime Minister and criticized the inconsistency of political parties, particularly PML-N, which first reduced the number of ministers through a constitutional amendment and later supported increasing it again.
Sardar Ahsan stressed the urgent need for political parties in Azad Kashmir to work towards strengthening the political system through mutual consultation and trust.
