ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has increased the Ramazan package from Rs 7.5 billion to Rs 12.5 billion and ordered to strengthen its reach to facilitate the masses during the upcoming holy month.
Along with tool shops and the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP), the mobile units would provide edible items at subsidized prices, the PM Office Media Wing said in a press release on Sunday.
In the initial phase, 1,200 mobile points and 300 permanent assistance centers will be established. The prime minister wants the maximum relief to be extended to the poor as well.
Apart from the designated locations, the trucks would also deliver food to different areas.
On March 7, the prime minister announced a Ramazan package subsidized with Rs 7.5 billion.
A total of 39.6 million people would receive food at 30 percent subsidized rates during the holy month.
Items under BISP included flour, rice, pulses, ghee, sugar, syrup and milk. The subsidy on flour would be Rs 77 per kg and on ghee Rs 70.
