Riyadh: Prime Minister Mohammad Shehbaz Sharif met with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on the sidelines of a special meeting of the World Economic Forum.
It was the first meeting between the two leaders since Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif was re-elected in March. The two leaders, however, spoke on the phone twice, on March 4, 2024, when the Prime Minister took office, and on April 10, 2024, during Eid al-Adha.
After a heated phone conversation, the Prime Minister praised the leadership of the Malaysian Prime Minister and praised his knowledge of art and literature, especially Pakistan’s national poet Allama Iqbal. The two leaders recalled the historic relations between Pakistan and Malaysia, especially in the fields of education, science and technology and trade, and promised to develop cooperation in the future.
The Prime Minister invited trade and business groups from Malaysia to Pakistan to discuss the development of trade and investment relations between the two countries. Both sides also agreed to hold the next meeting of the Joint Ministerial Group in Islamabad soon.
