ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday congratulated the Islamabad United team for winning the 9th Pakistan Super League and said that cricket is a unifying factor for the entire nation.
In a last-ball thriller, Islamabad United defeated Multan Sultans by two wickets in the PSL final at the National Bank Stadium in Karachi on Monday to become the first team to win the title for the third time as the team had already won the PLS in 2016 and 2018 as well.
“Both teams played a wonderful match. This is a victory for the whole nation, not for one team. Cricket unites the whole nation,” the Prime Minister said in a statement.
He also praised the Pakistan Cricket Board, security forces, administration, all the organizers and spectators for making PSL 9 a success.
The entire PLS series presented great competition and sportsmanship, he said, and especially thanked the international players who participated in the tournament.

“The PSL has not only provided recreation to cricket lovers but has also played a key role in scouting sporting talent at the local level. It has also helped revive international cricket in Pakistan,” PM Shehbaz noted.
He also reiterated that the incumbent government is determined to take comprehensive measures to promote cricket and other sports in the country.
