Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Monday ordered the Ministry of Energy to use more renewable energy sources to reduce the country’s oil import bill by billions of dollars, focusing on improving the electricity transmission system.
“Therefore, renewable energy must take over. Billions of dollars worth of oil imports can be controlled by using alternative sources like solar, wind and hydro. Do cold math and I believe you will win in the long term,” He said. said. Speaking at the meeting, he reviewed the work of the energy industry.
The Prime Minister said that the use of renewable energy sources will ensure that we get rid of the oil tanker mafia, which acts as a parasite and stinks up the national exchequer.
He said the country currently imports $27 billion worth of oil to meet its energy and transportation needs, and that figure could be significantly reduced by switching to alternative energy sources.
Discussing the action taken against power theft, he appreciated the work of the Punjab government and hoped that other provinces would also join the case to overcome this challenge.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that maximum effort and investment is needed to strengthen the country’s electricity transmission system, otherwise electricity and investment in the industry will decrease if the deficiencies in the electricity system are not addressed.
He asked the Ministry of Electric Power to engage world-class consultants to suggest ways for the government to develop the country’s electricity transmission system.
The Prime Minister also said heavy rains affected some parts of the country and expressed his condolences to the bereaved.
Prime Minister Shehbaz told the audience that the chairman of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has asked him to work with the provinces and provincial disaster management agencies to send relief supplies to the affected areas.
