LAHORE: An application has been filed in the Lahore High Court (LHC) to remove Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani from his post.
Citizen Mashkoor Hussain filed the application through his counsel Advocate Nadeem Sarwar in the LHC. Senate President Sadiq Sanjrani and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) were made respondents in the case.
The petition alleged that Senate Speaker Sanjrani, after contesting the election for the Balochistan Assembly seat, received a victory notice from the ECP and is still holding the post of senator.
According to the constitution, the President of the Senate is prohibited from holding two functions at the same time – senator and member of the Regional Assembly (MPA).
The petition alleged that Sanjrani was illegally holding the position of Senate President despite becoming an MPA.
The petitioner asked the court to order the ECP to remove Sanjrani from the top Senate post.
