Peshawar: The Peshawar High Court ordered Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur to submit a report on July 22, citing “increasing cases of coercion” in the province, particularly by the police and counter-terrorism units. measures taken by the government to solve the problem.
The order was issued by Chief Justice Kazi Ishtiaq Ibrahim during a hearing on a habeas corpus petition against the “illegal detention” of Hazrat Nabi Abdul Saeed’s brother. The petitioner also accused the police of demanding $7 million for the release of the detainees.
Advocate Malik Sarfaraz Khan appeared for the petitioner and said that on June 10, 2024, Abdul Saeed was arrested from Gulberg Super Market, Peshawar by house officers of Zaida Police Station, Swabi District.

He said that the prisoner was in the illegal custody of the SHO, who demanded $7 million from the petitioner for his release.
The lawyers asked the court to order the Inspector General of Police and other police officers to produce the arrestees.
He said the arrested persons were law-abiding citizens and their detention was unlawful against constitutional provisions guaranteeing their fundamental rights.
“Unfortunately, not only in this case, but in many other cases, this court observed on the one hand that the cases of ‘missing persons’ are on the rise, especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on the other hand. the disappearances against the police and CTD officials are demanding huge payments from the members the family of the missing person to release the missing person,” the bench said.
The court announced a review of the “flow of accusations of disappearance, especially of the police and CTD”, leaving the prime minister no choice but to detail the government’s steps to investigate. lost force.
The “enforced disappearance” is pending several lawsuits, and the family is accused of abducting members of law enforcement and failing to disclose their whereabouts.
