Islamabad: The seventh amendment of 50 clauses in the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) is an incomprehensible act. From 2016 to February 2025, seven changes are a question? The amendments in the PECA Act are a reflection of an authoritarian mindset. In which the prior opinions of the stakeholders were ignored. Clause 29 of the PECA Act is objectionable. In which the measures taken in this clause cannot be challenged in any forum. Chairman Azad Awam Tehreek, former candidate for National Assembly Javed Intizar, while expressing his reaction and strong reservations on the PECA Act, said in his statement that declaring the regulatory authority acquitted by the application of the PECA law makes the act controversial. Under which, in case of guilt or innocence, the journalist community is the only one who is to be blamed. Provision has been made to lock the language of social and electronic media through the amendment in the act. Action cannot be taken against the regulatory authority through the amendment. This clause is an argument for an authoritarian approach and temperament. Javed Intizar said that the amendments to the PECA Act have been made in a hurry. This has caused deep concern among the journalistic community. By capturing the media, the pillar of the state, in this way, the state will suffer. Demanding a review of the amendments to the PECA Act, he said that the opinions of stakeholders should be included in the amendments. And the law should be applied uniformly to the regulatory authority. The parties should be given the right to challenge the cases filed against them.
