LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi has strongly condemned the action of some cricket fans against fast bowler Haris Rauf and expressed his unconditional support to the fast bowler in this unfortunate incident of public awareness. Naqvi also warned that a case would be initiated against the perpetrators.
A sad incident took place in the United States (USA) where a cricket fan used abusive language against Haris Rauf when he accompanied him to a hotel or public place. The fans were upset because the Pakistan cricket team made an early exit from the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the USA.
Haris Rauf was the top scorer of the tournament with seven goals in four games, along with Mohammad Amir. He also took 3-21 against India – as Pakistan lost promotion. Pakistan finished third in the points table with a better run than second placed United States with 5 points.
In a tweet on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi wrote: ‘We must strongly condemn the horrible incident involving Haris Rauf. Such actions against our players are completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated. Those involved should immediately apologize to Haris Rauf, we will file a lawsuit for this responsibility,” he said.
Meanwhile, Pakistan pace sensation Haris Rauf, who completed 100 T20I wickets in the T20 World Cup, opened up about the incident in a tweet to X, explaining that the unholy cricket fan insulted his family in a fit of rage. “As civil servants, we are open to all input from the public. You have the right to support or criticize us. However, when it comes to my parents’ family, I will not hesitate to answer appropriately. Regardless of their profession, it is important to respect people and their families “
Cricket friends supported Haris Rauf and condemned the incident as baseless and unfortunate.
