LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has renewed the major contract of Haris Rauf after the pacemaker recalled a few days ago, confirmed PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi.
Rauf’s central contract was terminated by the PCB in February 2024 following an investigation into the pacer’s refusal to join Pakistan’s Test squad for the 2023–24 tour of Australia.
“We received a letter from Haris Rauf and handed it over to the court. He stated [in that letter] that there was a misunderstanding and he made a wrong decision and we renewed his contract,” Naqvi confirmed in a press release on Sunday.
“I was worried about him because he was already injured [in the PSL] and there were some problems with the treatment, he is our star player and we will take care of it [his injury] through insurance.”
Rauf, representing Lahore Qalandars in PSL 9, suffered an elbow injury and has been sidelined ever since.
During the press briefing, Naqvi was also asked about Imad Wasim, who announced on Saturday that he was taking back his retirement to be available for the Pakistan cricket team as the 2024 T20 World Cup approaches.
Naqvi said that the management only talked to Imad about one point, which was to take back his retirement and play for Pakistan. There was no discussion regarding the No Objection Certificate (NOC) for league cricket.
“Our main demand now is the World Cup which has been overseen by Wahab Riaz. Everyone believed that the team should be strong right now, so we asked Imad to come back and play, that’s all. There was no discussion about NOC [for league cricket],” Naqvi said.
Remember, the PCB chief has announced the reorganization of the seven-member selection committee for the Pakistan cricket team.
Former cricketers Mohammad Yousuf, Wahab Riaz, Abdul Razzaq and Asad Shafiq will comprise the selection committee, Naqvi said, adding that the other members will be the head coach, captain and analyst.
He added that there will be two to three coordinators, but they will not have any voting powers.
