ISLAMABAD: Professor Haroon, CEO of Mayo Hospital, on Friday asked parents to be extra vigilant and protect their children from pneumonia as cases have increased in Punjab due to cold weather. Speaking to private news channel, he claimed that the winter in Punjab this year has worsened and damaged the immune system of children. He urged parents to dress their young children in warm clothes and not let them go out in cold weather, as children’s poor resistance to cold makes them vulnerable to pneumonia.Describing the signs of pneumonia, he said that the symptoms of pneumonia include rapid breathing and tingling in the ribs in children, and parents should not perceive the disease as a general fever. According to the Punjab Health Department, 233 people died of pneumonia while 12,719 cases were reported in Punjab this year. According to 4,444 health ministry officials, pneumonia diagnostic and treatment services are available free of charge in all government hospitals in Punjab.
