ISLAMABAD : IWMI host a Pre-COP28 “Accelerating the Water-Food-Climate Nexus Transformation” dialogue, IWMI exploring the role of Water Security in food systems for a climate-resilient in Pakistan. IWMI’s Director General Dr. Mark Smifffy address the inaugural session of Pre-COP 28.
DG IWMI said as we all gear up for COP28, then our aim is that this meeting provides an opportunity to discuss new ways for us to collaborate and rally around the need to transform water, energy and food systems in Pakistan.” Dr. Smith summed up that moving forward IWMI will be supporting Ministry of Climate Change in CoP 28 position paper. Dr. Smith mentioned that mentioned, “We hope that today’s event will contribute to setting a pathway forward for Pakistan on the critical issues such as intensifying climate change, water scarcity, and food insecurity.”
H.E. Henny De Vries, Ambassador, Kingdom of the Netherlands said, “I am very pleased that IWMI took the initiative to bring us together to prepare for the COP28 and to discuss the importance of accelerating Water Food Climate Nexus Transformation Pathways for Pakistan.” She added “Pakistan translated its climate commitment into national policies and the Ministry of Climate Change established an institutional framework to implement initiatives.
We can identify how the Intl. community in Pakistan can work towards a climate resilient Pakistan.” H.E. Maciej Pisarski, Ambassador of Poland said “As we think about expanding Polish-Pakistan cooperation we should concentrate on issues which matter lot to our people. Therefore I believe jointly tackling climate change could provide a range of field for cooperation.”
