KARACHI: Pakistan Navy (PN) in coordination with Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) recovered 10 dead bodies of 14 missing fishermen from Al-Assad ship in a joint search and rescue operation.
A search and rescue operation was launched on the fifth day in the open sea. Despite heavy sea traffic in the vicinity of the accident, time lag and rough seas, the dead bodies of 10 missing fishermen were recovered on Monday, a Pakistan Navy press release said.
The fishing boat Al-Assad, with a crew of 45, capsized in the open sea off the Hajmbro creek on March 5 due to bad weather. The search operation involved several PN and PMSA assets, including aircraft, helicopters, ships and speedboats.
A major breakthrough in the search efforts came today when PMSS REHMAT recovered 10 dead bodies of the missing fishermen after receiving information from deployed units.
The recovered bodies were handed over to the concerned civil authorities for further formalities. The conduct of continuous search and rescue operations by the PN and PMSA is a manifestation of the PN’s commitment to assist in any civilian disaster at sea.
