HULUNBUIR CITY: Pakistan defeated Japan 2-1 to register their first win in the Asian Hockey Champions Trophy at the Moqi Hockey Training Base in Hulunbuir City, Inner Mongolia, China on Wednesday. The first goal was scored by Nadeem Ahmed in the first quarter but was later leveled when Japan scored a goal in the second quarter. In the 10th minute of the second quarter, Sufyan Khan scored a goal to restore Pakistan’s lead, which was enough to win. It should be noted that Pakistan’s first two matches ended in draws. The Green Shirts’ clash with South Korea ended in a 2-2 draw on Monday after they failed to save a two-goal lead. South Korea took the lead when they scored a goal in the second quarter that remained intact until the third quarter. The Pakistan team failed to score any goal in the third quarter and were trailing by one goal. However, in the fourth quarter, the Pakistani team staged an impressive comeback as Hanan Shahid scored two quick goals. However, before the game could end, Korea scored another goal to tie the game. Pakistan’s match against Malaysia on Sunday also ended in a 2-2 draw. Pakistan will face China on September 12 and India on September 14.
