Islamabad: Pakistan and Azerbaijan have reaffirmed their desire to increase bilateral cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, energy, communication and people-to-people relations.
This was discussed in a meeting with the interim executive president Syed Yosuf Raza Gillani and a delegation from the visiting minister of foreign affairs of Azerbaijan Mr. Jeyhun Bayramov.
Welcoming the Foreign Minister, the Executive President said that Pakistan and Azerbaijan enjoy deep historical ties based on common culture and religion. He said that the Multan Palace in Baku is a proof of the centuries-old relationship between the two brotherly countries. He suggested declaring Baku and Multan as “sister cities” to unite the two countries.
The President said that there is a huge opportunity to improve trade and business relations between the two countries. Both brothers expressed their satisfaction with the level of cooperation between the two countries and said that there is a common view between the two countries in various international forums.
The Interim President emphasized the need for educational and parliamentary exchanges to unite the two countries. He called for the development of people-to-people relations between the two countries, especially in the fields of tourism, business and education.
The visiting Foreign Minister said that cooperation between Pakistan and Azerbaijan is very important and should be developed in the fields of economy, trade and business. Increased communication and people-to-people contacts will help strengthen bilateral relations, he said.
Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani thanked the Government of Azerbaijan for its support to Pakistan on the issue of India’s illegal occupation of Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJ&K).
