Olympic 100m champion Noah Lyles said on Thursday that his Paris Games were likely over after he tested positive for Covid.
“I believe this will be the end of my 2024 Olympics,” Lyles wrote on Instagram after a test on Tuesday showed he had caught the disease.
Lyles finished third in the 200m on Thursday, dashing his hopes of a sprint double.
A healthy Lyles would be selected for the quartet of the Americans’ 4x100m relay for Friday’s final.
“It’s not the Olympics I dreamed of, but it left me with so much joy in my heart,” Lyles said.
He won the 100m by just five thousandths of a second on Sunday, but Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo claimed victory in the 200m on Thursday.
Lyles previously said that Covid affected his performance in this race.
