ISLAMABAD: Adding to the financial woes of the inflation-hit masses, the federal government on Thursday increased electricity tariff by Rs 2.56 per unit in terms of fuel cost adjustment (FCA) for the month of August.
FCA is related to June.
The National Electricity Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has issued a notification for a new increase in electricity rates, but it would not affect the lifeline and consumers of K-Electric.
The adjustment will appear separately in the consumer’s August bill based on the units billed in the month of June 2024, it reads.
Thursday’s hike will impose an additional financial burden worth Rs 33.45 billion on consumers, which would rise to Rs 39 billion after the implementation of the 18% GST.
The Central Power Purchase Agency (CPPA) has asked Nepra to increase electricity tariff by Rs 2.63 per unit as per FCA.
