LAHORE: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Tuesday elected Nawaz Sharif as the “unelected” party president – six years after a court order.
Nawaz lost his prime ministership and party presidency on July 28, 2017 as a result of the Panama Papers scandal. Since then, the PML-N has created a narrative around the phrase ‘mujhi kyun nikala’ (Why deleted?) in reference to the former prime minister.
However, Nawaz was elected as the current party president because no party leader filed nomination papers against the party leader for the top post.
Addressing the party’s general council meeting after being elected to the top post after six years, the former prime minister said Pakistan would progress if its government was not overthrown several times.
He said that if progress was not stopped under his rule, Pakistan would have a unique position and power in Asia.
Nawaz lamented the practice of “foot-dragging” that had been going on since 1977 and had weakened the country.
Trust me, we never went to anyone with a begging cup,” he said.
The three-time prime minister said he would never file a complaint if he was sacked for corruption.
‘Panama paper, trash thrown’
Nawaz told the party members that they should celebrate the occasion not because of his re-election as PML-N president, but because of the verdict of former Chief Justice of Pakistan Saqib Nisar in the Panama Papers case. waste basket”.
Nawaz said, “Sakib Nisar has decided to remove me from the party presidency permanently. Come to him now and see what happens to his decision.”
“Four five people violated the mandate of the people,” he said.
The newly elected PML-N president said he was proud that party members never ignored difficult situations.
He also praised the Prime Minister’s brother Shehbaz for his “perseverance” for always being by his side and said that many people tried to create a rift by offering Shehbaz the position of Prime Minister, but he did not allow it.
He also congratulated his daughter Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for her party activism.
Turning his gun on the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder, Nawaz asked which case against Imran Khan was fake. He also asked Imran if there was a “third force” behind him.
The PML-N president said that Imran had helped the PML-N regime in 2017 and “destroyed democracy”.
Speaking on the occasion, Prime Minister Shehbaz expressed confidence in the newly elected president and said that he has now returned the responsibility to Nawaz, who was entrusted to him years ago.
Noting that the prime minister had resigned as PML-N president earlier this month, he said it was time for his brother and former three-time prime minister to “reclaim his place as the party leader”.
If we work all the time under the leadership of Nawaz Sharif, Pakistan will come out of the crisis and become the Pakistan that Nawaz Sharif left in 2017,” said the prime minister, who replaced Nawaz as party president.
Shehbaz said that the Prime Minister was sacked three times because of the case, first in Panama, then because of the “Akama” case.
“But today under the leadership of Nawaz, we are working day and night in Punjab and the federation […],” Shehbaz said, adding that the 2018 elections were forcibly taken from the PML-N president.
“You Pakistanis will be dug up; if development does not return to Pakistan, there will be no judges, no politicians and no one else,” he said, appealing to the court.
“Why do you want this? I believe most of these judges are Pakistanis and I care about the development of Pakistan, but some ‘black sheep’ are helping PTI founder Imran Khan,” said the prime minister twice.
When Nawaz withdrew from the case, Shehbaz said he would not seek bail in the case. “But today, there is a discussion about how Imran can be released on bail and the case is dismissed.”
He pinches Imran and says all your “conspiracies” will fail. Shehbaz also expressed grief over PTI founder’s “campaign” against family members of army personnel.
Earlier, PML-N Punjab chapter leader Rana Sanaullah quoted Prime Minister Shehbaz as saying that the presidency should be returned to Nawaz as all the cases filed against him have been dropped.
