NANKANA SAHIB: In a dig at Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan for supposedly failing as prime minister despite lofty aspirations, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supreme leader Nawaz Sharif said on Wednesday that he is not a leader who forgets his pledges and makes U-turns.
Addressing a rally in Nankana Sahib, he stated that the country was progressing when he was prime minister, but it was halted by a “conspiracy”.
“The motorway from Sukkur would have reached here by now, but our government was overthrown in a conspiracy. People should ponder [before voting] about who halted the 18-hour load-shedding. Sugar cost 50 rupees per kilo during what era? He inquired as to when vegetables, lentils, bread, and gas were less expensive.
He praised the PML-N with creating Gwadar Airport, delivering peace to Karachi, building roads across the country, and operating Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) buses in several places, yet he was handcuffed for his efforts. “What crime did I commit? It was a crime to bring wealth [to the country], he added.
He asked, “In whose age did the price of roti rise from four to 20 rupees, sugar from 50 to 150, and the currency from 104 to 275 rupees? Why did all of this happen? I was not an imported prime minister; I was a local prime minister, and Imran Khan was a failed one.”
