Islamabad: Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Thursday met his Chinese counterpart Chi Anjanjun and briefed him on the investigation of the Dasu terror attack in Pakistan involving Chinese nationals.
Naqvi said during a meeting with Chinese ministers at the office of the US China mission to the United Nations in New York that “wrong steps have been taken for the safety of Chinese citizens.”
The meeting between the two ministers took place a day after Islamabad approved Operation Azm-e-Istehkam in Islamabad as a “multi-lateral operation and national approach of the entire country system” in the wake of rising terror incidents.
In a meeting with Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zedong earlier this month, Naqvi said he would provide adequate security to Chinese nationals working on various projects in Pakistan and said nothing would create misunderstandings between the two countries.
After today’s briefing, Anjanjun said he was pleased with the ongoing investigation in the case and stressed that the Pakistani authorities had taken a sincere and professional approach to the case.
On the other hand, the Chinese minister also extended an invitation to Naqvi to participate in the Global Security Forum in September this year, which was accepted by the interior minister.
Minister Naqvi invited his counterpart to visit Pakistan and reaffirmed the strong friendship between the two countries. “We are all proud of our friendship with China.”
The two ministers discussed relations between the two countries and security issues in the region.
During the meeting, the two ministers discussed cooperation in training and capacity building of Pakistan’s law enforcement agencies through the use of modern equipment and technology.
During the meeting, the Chinese minister appreciated the establishment of the Special Protection Unit (SPU) in Islamabad, especially for the protection of Chinese citizens in the country.
He also assured “full cooperation” in SPU education and other matters.
“Pakistan, China are air friends. Pak-China friendship is stronger than steel,” Anjanjun said while talking to Interior Minister Naqvi.
Naqvi and Anjanjun are currently in New York to attend the UN-COP conference.
