KHYBER: The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) and Citizen Facilitation Center (CFC) in Landi Kotal have suspended for all kinds of services for the last three days after brawl between NADRA staff members and Tehsil Chairman and councilors, sources informed.
According to the sources after exchange of hot words between the Tehsil Chairman along with a number of councilors and manager of the NADRA center over blocking of National Identity (ID) Card of a local, physical quarrel erupted among them however with no serious injuries to either side.
Tehsil Chairman Haji Shah Khalid said that the NADRA staff had thrice blocked the ID card of an applicant besides their attestation and when they inquired the reason of the center manager, he arrogantly replied that blocking and rejection of any application was his authority and no one questioned him.
Poor attitude and unsatisfactory replies from the manager led to a brawl between the councilors and the NADRA officials, he added.
He alleged that some staff members in the center with support of the manager victimized applicants while blocking their ID cards to collect illicit money from them.
The manager of the center filed a First Information Report (FIR) in Landi Kotal police station against the Tehsil Chairman and two other councilors for assaulting him and threatened dire consequences.
NADRA officials’ disproved allegation leveled against them and said they had an authority to block the ID card of any suspected applicant.
Till legal action to be taken against the alleged councilors and guarantee of their security, the centers would remain closed, NADRA staff added.
The unpleasant event took place two days back and since then, NADRA and the CFC center were closed, which multiplied the problems of the locals
