Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met Pope Francis in Vatican City. On his foreign visit, Naqvi visited the Vatican City and received him warmly. He was invited by Pope Francis and bilateral talks focused on the imperative of harmony between religions.
Pope Francis praised the Pakistani government’s efforts to restore the church after the Jaranwala incident.
In his letter, the Pope expressed his desire for peace and friendship in Pakistan. He said that he will try to visit Pakistan as the Prime Minister has extended an invitation to him.
He said he was saddened by the unrest in Palestine and received daily briefings on the situation from aid workers. Only interfaith dialogue and harmony can help solve the problems plaguing the world, he said.
Interior Minister Naqvi appreciated Pope Francis’ stance on Palestine and informed the Pakistani government’s efforts to eradicate terrorism. “Protection of minorities in Pakistan is our top priority,” he said.
“Our religion and our Prophet (peace and blessings of God be upon him) advise us to protect the minority,” he said. The constitution also promised freedom to minorities.
The Pope praised Pakistan for its efforts to promote harmony and ensure a dignified life for minorities.
