SWAT: The people of the area were enraged after a person from Sialkot desecrated the Holy Quran and set the scrolls on fire here on Thursday in the Madyan area of Swat district. The police freed the accused from public custody and shifted him to the police station. People made announcements and surrounded the police station, and during this, the police fired in the air. However, the angry people entered the police station and set fire to the police station building and arrested the insolent person. 11 protesters were also injured and many police vehicles were burnt as well.
According to DPO Swat Dr. Zahidullah, the tragic incident took place at that time When a tourist from Sialkot, identified as Sulaiman, people informed the police about the desecration of the Holy Quran and setting fire to the holy papers.
The police arrested Sulaiman and shifted him to Madyan police station, then people surrounded the police station by making announcements through loudspeakers.
The police fired in the air to disperse the crowd, but the crowd entered the police station.
DPO Swat Dr. Zahid further said that the angry people set fire and vandalized DSP Madyan’s office, building and police vehicles.
“The angry people also freed the accused from the possession of the police and after dragging him on the streets, they set him on fire and killed him,” Dpo Swat confirmed.
According to the hospital sources, during this time, eleven local people have also been injured who have been shifted to Madyan Civil Hospital while two people have been transferred to Saidu Sharif Hospital.
After the incident, people have also blocked the main highway of Kalam by closing Madyan Bazar.
DPO Swat Dr. Zahidullah and other police officers have also reached the spot and heavy police force has been called in the area to deal with any untoward incident.
