MIRPUR: Deputy Commissioner Yasir Riaz conducted multiple meetings with administrative officials, media representatives, civil society members, lawyers, traders, transporters, and social organizations to review the final arrangements for Kashmir Solidarity Day on February 5. The key event will be the formation of a human chain on Mangla Bridge, symbolizing unity between the people of Pakistan and Azad Kashmir.
As part of the observance, a torchlight vigil will be held at Chowk Shaheedan on February 4 after Maghrib prayers to honor the martyrs of Kashmir. On February 5, a grand rally of vehicles will depart from Y-Cross at 8:30 AM towards Mangla Bridge. At 8:55 AM, sirens will be sounded, followed by one minute of silence, and then the formation of the human chain. A large public gathering will also be held on Mangla Bridge, alongside a signature campaign in support of the Kashmir freedom movement.
Comprehensive Media Coverage Planned
Deputy Commissioner Yasir Riaz emphasized the role of print and electronic media in amplifying the voice of Kashmiris worldwide. He urged participation from political, social, and religious groups, lawyers, journalists, traders, industrialists, transporters, government employees, teachers, and students from schools, colleges, and universities.
Sports & Public Events on February 5
Several sports events will mark Kashmir Solidarity Day:
10:30 AM – A cricket match between Commissioner XI and Deputy Commissioner XI at the Cricket Stadium.
11:00 AM – A volleyball tournament at High School Singhote.
3:00 PM – A marathon race from Khaliqabad to Singhote.
7:00 PM – Intra-club badminton tournament at the Sports Complex, New City.
Additionally, solidarity rallies will be organized by various political and social organizations. Vehicles participating in the Mangla rally will display Pakistani and Azad Kashmir flags, and the national anthems and patriotic songs will be played during the procession.
High-Level Meetings for Final Preparations
Deputy Commissioner Yasir Riaz and SSP Khawar Ali Shaukat led a meeting with administrative officials, traders, transporters, and other organizations. The session was attended by District Bar President Ch. Shakeel Zaman, DHO Dr. Fida Hussain Raja, AC Raja Zahid Hussain, Chief Officer Municipality Raja Shehzaaz Khan, District Mufti Zahid Mahmood, DEO (Women) Farukh Awais, and representatives from the education, information, sports, and civil defense departments.
A separate meeting with media representatives and Kashmir Press Club officials was also held to ensure wide coverage of the solidarity events.
The authorities urged the public’s maximum participation to send a strong message of support for Kashmir’s struggle for freedom.
