Meta AI Now Speaks Urdu

In a major step toward inclusive digital transformation, Meta has officially introduced Urdu language support for its AI assistant in Pakistan. The announcement was made during the “Future in Focus: AI and Innovation” event, held in partnership with the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT). The initiative is part of Meta’s broader strategy to expand access to AI tools and foster innovation across the country.

Empowering Users Through Language

With this launch, Pakistani users can now engage with Meta AI in both English and Urdu, making the technology more accessible to a wider audience. The move is expected to accelerate digital adoption and empower communities by bridging language barriers in tech.

Government Endorsement of Digital Vision

Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, emphasized the significance of the development, stating that it aligns with the Prime Minister’s Digital Nation Vision. “Pakistan is advancing toward a future where technology serves every citizen,” she said. “Our collaboration with Meta reinforces our commitment to AI education, digital innovation, and inclusive access. The addition of Urdu to Meta AI is a milestone that ensures no one is left behind.”

Meta’s Commitment to Public Sector Innovation

Sarim Aziz, Meta’s Director of Public Policy for South and Central Asia, echoed this sentiment. “We’re excited to bring Meta AI to Urdu-speaking users,” he said. “This step opens new doors for communities to engage with technology in their native language, while also supporting public and educational institutions in their digital transformation journeys.”

Localized Guide for Government Innovation

As part of its broader efforts, Meta also unveiled a localized version of its guide, Transforming Public Sector Innovation in Asia Pacific with Llama, developed in collaboration with Deloitte. The guide outlines how Meta’s open-source AI model, Llama, can enhance governance, improve service delivery, and uphold data sovereignty. It includes case studies and best practices from across the Asia-Pacific region, including Pakistan.

AI Literacy Programme for Educators

In addition, Meta launched the AI Literacy Programme in collaboration with the Higher Education Commission (HEC), National Computing Education Accreditation Council (NCEAC), MoITT, and atomcamp. This initiative will train 350 university faculty members—particularly those without a computer science background—in foundational AI skills, enabling them to better prepare students for the digital economy.

GDTX 2025: Driving Government Innovation

Meta also introduced the Government Digital Transformation Xperience (GDTX) 2025, a program designed to equip public institutions in Pakistan with cutting-edge tools, strategies, and insights for effective digital governance. The initiative will bring together experts from both the public and private sectors to share knowledge and drive innovation.

A Leap Toward Inclusive Tech

Together, these efforts mark a significant leap forward in Pakistan’s digital evolution, with Meta playing a key role in making technology more inclusive, accessible, and impactful for all.
