SOUTH WAZIRISTAN: The decision to establish the district headquarters of South Waziristan Upper (SWU) could not be resolved after two years and the issue of shifting district offices of line departments from District Tank is still pending.
A grand jirga of students and social personalities including various political parties of Mehsud tribes was held at Najeeb Shaheed Kot Ladha subdivision on wednesday regarding the establishment of district headquarters South Waziristan Upper.
Local journalist Shakir Mehsud told Dawn that the local people are campaigning from house to house to establish the district headquarters of Upper S Waziristan in the appropriate location.
He said while jirgas are being organized repeatedly by the local residents and apart from this, people are also preparing for a peaceful protest.
Local journalist Shakir Mehsud added, the former provincial Government of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Khyber Pakhtunkhowa divided South Waziristan into two districts on 12 December 2022, in which one district was named as Lower South Waziristan and the other as Upper South Waziristan.
He said but instead of setting up district headquarters in both the districts, the provincial government seems to be lagging behind.
A grand Jirga was held
On this occasion spokesperson of Center Waziristan Youth Trust, Chairman Ishaq, Chairman Noor Alam, Mufti Ibrahim and elder Javed Mehsud said, that for the development of Upper South Waziristan, prosperity and settlement, establishment of district administration offices from Tank district to the areas of Upper Waziristan is the urgent need of the hour.
Jirga participants said that we are conducting door-to-door campaigns all over Upper Waziristan and are in contact with various political leaders and social figures including regional elders at different places.
They added that we have also requested the elected members of the provincial assembly and national assembly to support our demand, they expressed hope, the two public representatives will represent us on the floor of the National and Provincial Assembly.
Spokesperson of Central Waziristan Youth Trust said that as part of a conspiracy, the district headquarters misleads the tribal elders about staying in the Upper Waziristan areas and opens new opinions regarding headquarters every day and due to which the headquarters could not be decided till today.
Jirga participants said that present Deputy Commissioner Upper Waziristan and all his staff are also sincere in shifting the district headquarters offices from Tank district to Upper Waziristan.
Jirga participants strongly demanded from Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhowa Ali Amin Gandapur that the issue of the district headquarters of Upper Waziristan should be resolved immediately so that the basic problems of the life of the people of Upper Waziristan can be resolved.
