LAHORE: Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz has announced to provide 1,224 flats to laborers in Taxila and Sundar labor colonies without any cost.
Key decisions on the welfare of workers were taken in a meeting chaired by CM Punjab.
During the session, the performance of the labor department was reviewed and the officials briefed the CM about the performance.
Projects related to worker scholarship programs, worker colonies, health facilities for workers were reviewed at the meeting.
The Punjab CM also ordered to pay Rs. 6 billion in death and marriage benefits for workers. The construction of two hostels for women workers in the garment city was approved on the instructions of Maryam Nawaz.
It also announced free accommodation for 704 women workers in Sheikhupura.
The Punjab CM also directed to ensure implementation of labor reforms, occupational health and safety and minimum wage laws.
CM Maryam Nawaz claimed that the minimum wage of Rs. 37,000 will be enforced involving all stakeholders.
She emphasized that the protection of every worker is the government’s responsibility.
She listed the challenges faced by the workers and stressed the need to put in place a workplace safety protocol and SOPs and provisions for safety gear for sanitation personnel.
